The Federal Government just opened a New Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) with the Shire of Dardanup in Western Australia’s South West region.

The South West DAMA (Shire of Dardanup) aims to fill critical labour shortages with skilled migrants in key roles where Australian workers are unavailable. This new agreement intends to contribute to the region’s economic growth and mitigate the impact of COVID-19 on worker shortages across all industries in the area.

The five-year agreement is accessible for businesses operating within the South West region and covers 12 local government areas, including:

  • City of Bunbury
  • City of Busselton
  • Shire of Augusta Margaret River
  • Shire of Boyup Brook
  • Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes
  • Shire of Capel
  • Shire of Collie
  • Shire of Dardanup
  • Shire of Donnybrook-Balingup
  • Shire of Harvey
  • Shire of Manjimup
  • Shire of Nannup

Applying under a DAMA agreement is an excellent option for skilled migrants in regional Australia, offering access to occupations that may not be available through mainstream visa programs and providing a range of concessions.

Occupations

The new South West DAMA allows local businesses to employ suitably skilled workers in 56 occupations classified in the following sectors:

  • Carers, Health & Welfare Workers
  • Hospitality, Accommodation, Tourism, and Retail Sector
  • Construction Industry & Engineers
  • Agricultural Industry
  • Dairy Industry
  • Mechanical Industry
  • Medical
  • Plant Operators
  • Technology
  • Timber Industry

Concessions

The South West DAMA provides four types of concessions depending on the nominated occupation, including:

  • English Language
  • Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT)
  • Pathway to Permanent Residence (PR)
  • Age Concessions: 55 years for overseas workers in skill level 1-4 occupations; and 50 years for overseas workers in skill level 5 occupations.
